A bioinspired soft actuated material.
A class of soft actuated materials that can achieve lifelike motion is presented. By embedding pneumatic actuators in a soft material inspired by a biological muscle fibril architecture, and developing a simple finite element simulation of the same, tunable biomimetic motion can be achieved with fully soft structures, exemplified here by an active left ventricle simulator.
متن کاملMechanical Behavior of an Electrostatically-Actuated Microbeam under Mechanical Shock
In this paper static and dynamic responses of a fixed-fixed microbeam to electrostatic force and mechanical shock for different cases have been studied. The governing equations whose solution holds the answer to all our questions about the mechanical behavior is the nonlinear elasto-electrostatic equations. Due to the nonlinearity and complexity of the derived equations analytical solution are ...
متن کاملOn Hybrid Control of Under-Actuated Mechanical Systems
In this work we present a novel control design methodology for under-actuated mechanical systems. As part of the design process we use the reachability analysis tool d/dt [ABDM99,D00] to see whether there is a switching sequence which can drive the system to a desired periodic orbit. Much of the work in the design of the control law is done manually using classical control techniques (unlike th...
متن کاملPhotocrosslinkable Gelatin Hydrogel for Epidermal Tissue Engineering.
Natural hydrogels are promising scaffolds to engineer epidermis. Currently, natural hydrogels used to support epidermal regeneration are mainly collagen- or gelatin-based, which mimic the natural dermal extracellular matrix but often suffer from insufficient and uncontrollable mechanical and degradation properties. In this study, a photocrosslinkable gelatin (i.e., gelatin methacrylamide (GelMA...
متن کاملBioinspired Reductionistic Peptide Engineering for Exceptional Mechanical Properties
A simple solution-processing and self-assembly approach that exploits the synergistic interactions between multiple hydrogen bonded networks and aromatic interactions was utilized to synthesize molecular crystals of cyclic dipeptides (CDPs), whose molecular weights (~0.2 kDa) are nearly three orders of magnitude smaller than that of natural structural proteins (50-300 kDa). Mechanical propertie...
